Devils Name Nasreddine, Ward Assistant Coaches (Geoff Ward)

When John Hynes was introduced as the new head coach of the New Jersey Devils he stated he'd like to choose his assistant coaches in short order.

Hynes stayed true to his word as, after two weeks on the job, he and GM Ray Shero have announced the team's new assistants.

Alain Nasreddine was a defenseman in pro hockey and served as an assistant to Hynes in Wilkes Barre/Scranton for his entire tenure there.

The Baby Penguins were the best defensive team in the AHL during four of their five years with the team and Nasreddine was responsible for the defense so surely he played a big part in the team's success.

It's hardly a surprise Nasreddine is joining the Devils as he has been linked to the team since Hynes took over.

Ward will be the assistant on staff that has NHL experience under his belt. His most recent NHL job was with the Boston Bruins where he served as an assistant from 2007-08 to 2013-14. During that span the Bruins won a Stanley Cup, reached the Stanley Cup Final twice and were consistently one of the best teams in hockey.

He spent last season coaching in the German league for Adler Mannheim where he won Coach of the Year and led his team to a championship.

Ward's name wasn't really out there as a potential assistant, however, he seems as qualified as anyone for the position.

There's been no word on what exactly this means for Scott Stevens but we do know his days running things on the back end are over.
