The Devils went to the Penguins while hiring their new GM, and it appears they'll do the same for their vacant head coaching position.
New Jersey has been granted permission to speak to Dan Bylsma as well as Baby Pens head coach John Hynes.
Via the Post-Gazette: Rutherford has given Buffalo and San Jose permission to discuss coaching positions with Bylsma — New Jersey GM Ray Shero also is believed to have gotten clearance to talk to Bylsma and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton coach John Hynes about the Devils coaching job, although Rutherford would not confirm that — and Rutherford has not ruled out seeking compensation if another team hires him.
Bylsma won a Stanley Cup with Ray Shero in Pittsburgh so naturally the Devils have been linked to him since Shero was hired in New Jersey.
Should that be something the Devils pursue I doubt they'd have to give compensation to Pittsburgh as, like with Shero, the Penguins would probably be happy getting his salary off the books. It seems Shero's interest is more significant in Hynes, though, and I doubt the Penguins would be willing to let him walk away for nothing.
There's a lot of moving parts here so it'll be interesting to see how all this plays out.
