Damon Severson Linked To Edmonton Oilers (Devils)

The common line of thought was that Severson was made available by the New Jersey Devils in effort to try and bring in a quality forward to help improve the team's scoring.

They've yet to make a significant addition so Severson's name continues to be out there.

The latest and greatest had the 21-year-old linked to the Edmonton Oilers.

Now, seeing Severson's name "in play" kind of makes me uneasy. He led the Devils' defense core in points last season while being under-utilized and there's no doubt he has the most offensive potential among all defensemen in the Devils' organization.

In saying that I would be willing to part with him for the right player and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins would be just that.

He is 23 years old, signed long-term at a reasonable $6 million salary and has averaged almost 60 points per 82 games throughout his career. He can handle himself in the defensive zone and would be the best offensive talent on the Devils.

I imagine the Devils would have to add to Severson (as they should) to pry RNH from the Oilers but that's probably a good base to build around.

Whether anything comes of these rumors remains to be seen but Severson's name has been tossed around a fair bit over the last week or so.

Where there's smoke, there's fire.
