Heard just now from a source who has spoken with multiple front offices in the last two days:
Last night, the Dallas Stars offered a 2nd round pick this year, a 2nd round pick next year and one of their top defense prospects for Patrick Sharp. This morning, Hawk GM Stan Bowman turned the offer down. No word whether the Stars will come back with another offer, although there are reports Dallas dropped out this morning.
If true, this news sheds light on a couple of different questions.
First, Bowman must believe he has (or can get) a better offer for Sharp elsewhere.
Second, the offer is structured very similarly to the offer first reported here from the Toronto Maple Leafs (a 2015 late first rounder, a 2016 second rounder, and a top defense prospect).
And the Dallas offer was reported by a different source than the Toronto offer. Two other teams rumored to be in pursuit of Sharp include the Capitals and the Panthers.
More as I have it. Things are heating up.
