After being pummelled by the Ducks a night prior the Calgary Flames were looking to redeem themselves last night in Los Angeles.
That didn't happen, though, as the Kings were the better team from start to finish and walked away with a 3-0 victory as a result.
The Good
- The Johnny Gaudreau - Sean Monahan - Hunter Shinkaruk trio was the only Flames' line and/or defensive pairing that finished positive in possession.
Generally when they were on the ice good things happened which is, well, a good thing. The same can't be said about many others.
- By his standards T.J. Brodie didn't have the best of games but he still offered this nice sequence.

Brodie's smarts and patience with the puck are what separates him from many others. He rarely forces anything that isn't available and will maintain control of the puck until he sees something he likes. In the rare event he turns it over he has the skating ability and defensive prowess to get the puck right back.
- When the Flames decided they wanted it to be a close game and scored to make it 2-1 the goal was undeservedly called off. It's nice to see the refs are looking out for the Flames' tank.
- After losing consecutive games in regulation the Flames sit at 70 points (three out of last) with four games to play. They still play Vancouver (69 points) and Edmonton (67), too, so a couple key losses could all but assure a top-3 pick in the draft. That's fun!
The Bad
- The Flames were out attempted 63-41, out shot 29-21 and out chanced 34-20. It was to be expected - the Kings are way out of the Flames' league at the best of times - but discouraging nonetheless.
- Joni Ortio wasn't necessarily bad but once again the Flames had sub .900 goaltending. This really needs to be addressed in the off-season.
- T.J. Brodie was the only Flame with more than two shots on goal.
