Coyotes Lose to Dubnyk, Play Jets Today (Smith)

Just a quick little blog today since I am very busy, but I wanted to comment on last night's game a bit.

It was exactly the kind of game the Coyotes should look to play for the rest of the season: competitive, entertaining but, ultimately, a loss.

No point in moving up the standings, and to that effect, former Coyotes (for half a season) Devan Dubnyk did his ex-teammates a favor last night. The Coyotes were only able to put one past him and he shut them down in the third when they pressed pretty hard and controlled the play, for the most part.

These are the kind of games that you can at least build off of: they played well, basically lost 2-1 and the first goal came right at the tail end of a power-play, so all in all a good night.

Interesting also was that Doan missed his second consecutive game after blocking a shot earlier in the week. Annoyingly, every keeps calling it a "lower body injury" which is so stupid - he got hit blocking a shot and you can see exactly where it hit him and what part of him is injured - and everyone just continues to speak in this stupid, vague way - it's maddening.

Anyways, I won't reveal the true nature of his injury for fear of committing a thoughtcrime.

Nice too, to see Dubnyk find some quick success with his new team: one goal over two games and a shut-out (though let's be realistic, he beat Buffalo and Arizona).

Doan is a game-time decision tonight, Smith will start back-to-backs and that's all I got. Except that the Jets haven't lost (in regulation, at least) since the Coyotes last beat them.

About Smith staring tonight: Why? Winning is not a real goal, so why not throw the new kid his first start? Seems mean, almost.

Anyways, enjoy the game, if Sunday hockey is your thing.

Note: Cross your fingers kids, we're only five points out of last.
