Follow @james_tanner123 Usually I watch the games on tape-delay after my wife goes to bed, but Tuesday nights are poker nights and I was eliminated before the first blind was even over, so with my wife hiding from my friends in the bedroom and me having abandoned the game for better things, I enjoyed the full scope of NHL Centres Ice, flipping between the Leafs, Penguins, Canadiens, Senators and Coyotes games.
Though I would rather not have been taken out of the poker game (I flopped a King-high flush, but the guy who usually bluffs off all his chips in the first ten minutes of every game happened to flop it with the Ace) it was fun to watch bits of eight or so games simultaneously.
This, as it turned out, was a way better idea than just taping and watching the Coyotes game, because, unless you're a Jets fan, that game sucked.
Tippett put together Hanzal Domi and Duclair and they were dominant. Duclair in particular had a good game with a goal, three shots and a dominant 70% rating.
Also, nice game from Blake Wheeler. That guy is a Pierre McGuire Monster for sure.
Some other observations of the night:
It sucked when the Penguins got a shut-out, I am playing vs MA Fleury in my Yahoo pool this week and the Devils hit several posts. Also, Corey Schneider is insane.
Vancouver appears to be the worst run team in the NHL and Schneider and Luongo are/have been two of, if not the actual, best goalies in hockey this year.
-The best part of all the games was witnessing the absolute domination of the Senators over the Sabres in the last ten or so minutes of that game. I think hockey should work like basketball and you should just have to get your shot off before the buzzer. It was a shame that goal didn't count.
This would have the advantage of making it easier to make common sense calls on the ice, not slow down the game and avoid people talking about parallaxes. plus, the NHL should just adopt this policy:
WHEN IN DOUBT, THE GOAL SHOULD COUNT
- The nicest goal I saw all night was the one-timer by Alex Galchenyuk. Why do the Canadiens continue to play him on the wing when he could be their best centre?
- In the end, I think I prefer my normal technique of just watching one or two games in full with no commercials when everyone else has gone to bed, but it was still really fun to be able to flip between many games at once.
Usually, if I do watch games live, it's with other people and flipping between eight games is not an option. Besides, any other time I've done this, there hasn't been so many games on.
No commercials, no intermission old guys yelling at each other. It was no X Files, but it was good. That's all,
