I still don't think they'd actually trade the pick - it's the highest they've ever had (they also drafted Kyle Turris 3rd in 2007) and they could desperately use a centre like Dylan Strome or a D partner for OEL like Hafinin.
One would think it would take something pretty crazy to make this move. Rumours include Columbus and Philadelphia pushing hard for the pick, which makes sense because supposedly they both covet Hanifin.
If the Flyers were to offer Sean Couturier, that'd be a good starting point (at least in my imagination). As for Columbus, I am unsure what they might have to make a deal happen.

Still, I'm comfortable enough with the Coyotes prospects that Kessel and the 24th pick for Domi and the 3rd is something I'd have to at least consider. I guess it depends on how good the brass feels Strome will end up being.
Plus, that would still leave the 'Yotes short of the #1 C they desperately need, although there's some creative options - not sure he'd be available, but the Bruins need to sign Hamilton and have some cap issues, so maybe a Krejci trade could be worked out?
I know people are in love with youth movements, but with the Coyotes roster, salary cap space and well-stacked prospect pipeline, a move to get competitive sooner than later isn't completely out of the question - especially when you consider market factors.
So back to that $18 Million? I don't think the cap-floor will be too hard to reach.
Boedker - $4 Erat - $2 Chris Cunningham - $1 John Moore - $1 Back-up goalie - $2 Gormley - $2 2-3 AHL Players - $3
That's $15 million right there, but even if you say they don't sign Erat and I over estimated, the low end of that is still $12 before they even have to sign anyone.
So basically, once the business of re-signing their own players and adding basic necessities like a back-up goalie, they're looking at between $6 and -$8 to reach the cap-floor. That certainly isn't the big deal people are making of it - it allows them to maybe take on a bad contract or two in a trade to get a better deal.
For instance, if they did trade their 3rd pick, they could go to Carolina and try to get back inside the top ten by offering up a prospect and being willing to take Semin. That's just an example, there's probably ten teams that would consider some variation of that plan - Boston or L.A for example.
Or, they trade for a big ticket guy like Kessel or Lucic.
Either way, the salary cap-floor isn't going to be difficult to hit.
Sure sounding like ARIZ might be this years FLA in overpaying average players to get to the cap floor. Coyotes sit $18m shy.
