The Washington Capitals have announced the re-signing of forward Jay Beagle.
Beagle signed a 3-year, $5.25M contract.
“We are pleased to re-sign Jay to a new three-year contract,… GM Brian MacLellan said. “Jay is a hard-working player who plays multiple positions and is an excellent face-off man and penalty killer. Jay has improved steadily since joining our organization and has always brought his game to a different level in the playoffs.… (Washington Capitals team website)
Beagle played in 62 games this season (tied for a career high) and had career highs in goals, assists and points (10-10-20). He was utilized on almost every line and was most notable for his play on the top line with Ovechkin and Backstrom. He's a meat-and-potatoes kind of player and fits in well with the Barry Trotz brand of hockey we're seeing in Washington now.
The Caps now have to turn their focus to re-signing Braden Holtby, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Marcus Johansson. Washington has all but parted ways already with Mike Green, Eric Fehr and Joel Ward.
They now have 17 NHL players under contract for next season with $18.3M left to spend.
