Caps Interested in Swedish League Star Derek Ryan (Washington Capitals)

The Caps have a lot to do this summer and in a few weeks, the NHL Draft will kick off some potential deals that could see Mike Green's and Joel Ward's contracts traded away. The Caps also need to resign some key pieces including Braden Holtby, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Marcus Johansson.

The Capitals are also kicking tires on Swedish Hockey League leading scoring, Derek Ryan who scored 60 points in 55 games for à–rebro HK.

Ryan is a 28 year old American who spent 4 seasons with the Spokane Chiefs in the WHL before attending, and playing for, the University of Alberta Golden Bears from 2007-2011. He was named the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS West) MVP for the 2010-11 season and named to the CIS All-Canadian First Team.

Ryan is a center who has some other NHL teams looking to sign him to a two-way contract including the Colorado Avalanche who seem to be in the lead for his services.
