Caps Down Habs; Back in First (Washington Capitals)

Braden Holtby stood tall with 33 saves against Montreal as the Capitals kicked off their Canadian road trip with their 6th straight win to propel them to first place once again in the Metro.

The Caps got two goals from T.J. Oshie and a rare goal from Tom Wilson, who put Washington up 1-0 in the first. Mike Condon stopped only 16-19 shots while filling in for the injured Carey Price.

Twice, the Caps had a one goal lead and twice the Canadiens came back to tie the game, their 2nd goal coming from Brian Flynn who scored a shorthanded goal in the third.

Washington is now 12-1-0 when scoring first and have won their last 6 straight games.

Coming into tonights game, the Capitals were 2 points behind the Rangers for first in the Metro. New York lost their game tonight against the Avalanche, 2-1.

The first place Canadiens have three games on the Caps as they fall back to 19-5-3 (41pts).

The Caps climb to second in the East behind Montreal with an 18-5-1 (37pts) record.

The biggest news of the day, besides the end to Oshie's goal drought, was head coach Barry Trotz's 620th career win, tying him with former Capitals GM Brian Murray and landing him 10th among the all-time winningest coaches in the NHL.

Congrats Coach!
