The Carolina Hurricanes has placed Alex Semin on waivers for the purpose of buying out the winger. Carolina has bitten the financial bullet, as they were unable to trade Semin with three years and $21 Million left on his contract.
Florida has also waived forward Brad Boyes.
In other news, the Boston Bruins have swapped recently acquired goalie Martin Jones to the Sharks for a 2016 first round pick and prospect Sean Kuraly.
