Follow @james_tanner123 In between episodes of the Americans I have popped in because something hilarious has happened:
After taking a tile that Washington had held for nearly twenty years, the city of Toronto has now lost the only thing it has recently won: Weirdest Mayor.
Now, this is all in good fun, and I hate to mock the guy, but come on dude, "Inter-webs?" That's easily the worst part.
Despite what your sweater says, it ain't 1992. Even my great-grandma, were she still alive, would be embarrassed to say "inter-webs."
"As many of you know, I am not scared of anything, except, you know, keeping up with technology that is over twenty years-old and also apparently, the colour purple." [ed.note:paraphasing]
But that begs the question, with all the things embarrassing about this, why is the guy happy about avoiding a more purple jersey? Is that really going to be what pushes this over the edge?
I know this was done in good fun, but like "the Wave," not much is more annoying than innocuous bets between mayors of cities. And despite the good intentions, this was a train-wreck in the most hilarious possible way. I had enough material for this blog in the first thirty seconds, but dear sweet savior-of-your-denominational-choice, it only gets better and better.
A Barbershop Quartet? Check.
A sappy but cute choir of kids? Check.
A guy popping up to beat box? Son of a Coconut, but it's a check.
To be honest, the mixture of Capella singing, beat boxing, Beach Boys-style harmonies with an off-key lead singer and a children's choir is bizarrely compelling and possibly a musical experiment that Brian Eno could be proud of.
The best part though is when what I believe to be the real Sam Bennett appears at the side of the screen for a full-on hoe-down. The guy's enthusiasm is contagious, no wonder he was drafted so high.
In the end I don't want to be too cynical, because even though this was easily the worst seven minutes of my life, I did find it hilarious, in a Sharknado sort of way.
And I do believe that it's OK to lightly mock something this amazing if I also take time to mention the charity it was for, which was The Anaheim chapter of Accelerate Change Together, which works with at-risk youth and is no-doubt a great cause.
In all seriousness, I don't know what Politics Mayor Nenshi supports and in the end, he seems like a good, fun loving guy. I'd vote for him just based on this video, which, I hope for his re-election campaign, Tosh never sees.
Thanks for reading.
