The Islanders will be without defenseman Travis Hamonic for the next 4-6 weeks. Hamonic suffered the injury Saturday night against the Edmonton Oilers. He left the game after blocking a shot with his arm in the first period and did not return. The injury is believed to be a broken bone.
Adam Pelech will be recalled from Bridgeport. Pelech sat out the third period of the Sound Tigers game Saturday night after Hamonic's injury.
The Islanders are already without Ryan Pulock, who broke his foot two weeks and is expected to be out another month.
This is a big blow to the Islanders. Although Hamonic is not having a good season, he is crucial to their success.
The Islanders host the Vancouver Canucks Monday, losers of eight straight games.
