Sergei Bobrovsky was pulled from last night’s game with an injury. I speculated that this was just a precautionary move but today it turned out to be more serious. Bobrovsky has to go on the IR and is out for the foreseeable future.
David Savard was also placed on the IR; this is just a paper move to give the team another roster spot.

— Alison (@AlisonL) January 22, 2016This is very unfortunate news in a very unfortunate year for the Jackets. I don’t think Bob was rushed back by any means but next time he returns he needs to be 110%. He is a huge part of this team’s future and they cannot risk a long-term injury.
I never want to say anyone is injury prone but Bob has shown over the last two years that he cannot stay healthy for a full season. The team really needs to invest in a good backup goalie. This would have to be a move made in off-season as any move in season could hurt the tank. Plus this is a great opportunity for an extended look at Joonas Korpisalo. If Korpisalo plays well here he very well could be that strong backup the team needs next season.
In the meantime Anton Forsberg has been recalled from Lake Erie. I said last time I think both goalies should be getting consistent starts and even though Korpisalo has been great of late this still holds true. The two should be splitting starts evenly. This shouldn’t be much of an issue as the Jackets have plenty of back to backs.

As you can see in the tweet above Nick Foligno and Matt Calvert have been activated off the IR. To make room on the roster Markus Hannikainen was sent down to the Monsters.

— Rob Mixer (@RobMixer) January 22, 2016For Hannikainen this is good move. He wasn’t doing that great with the big club and this will give him a chance to go down and play a big role for Lake Erie.
Getting Foligno and Calvert back are big boosts to the forward group. They will bump Rene Bourque and Jared Boll to press box duty. As with Bobrovsky I don’t want to see these guys rushed back into the lineup if they are not ready. If they need reduced minutes to help get back to game speed so be it.
Calvert is an interesting player to watch in the upcoming weeks. He is someone I could potentially see being moved. He has a cheap deal just a $2.2M cap hit, and is signed for two more years after this one. If a contending team was looking to bolster their bottom six he would be a great addition. Not saying anything will happen, just something to keep an eye on.
*** In further injury news John Tortorella was banged up after today's outdoor practice. He and Rene Bourque collided and Torts was said to have injured his back. He was taken to hospital but it sounds like everything is going to be fine. However he may have to miss Saturday's game in Boston.
Does not appear Tortorella will make trip to Boston with team. Flight leaves at 2:30. Possible he could travel on his own, however. #CBJ
