The Islanders have announced this morning that they have returned forward Mathew Barzal to the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL.
Barzal played in two games for the Islanders this season. Barzal has not played since October 26 against the Canadiens. It did not appear that he was going to get into a game anytime soon.
This move makes total sense for both Barzal and the Islanders. Barzal gets to play every game now for Seattle and can be brought back following Seattle's season whether it's to the NHL or the AHL. The move gives some roster flexibility to the Isles. They will likely recall another defenseman, most likely Scott Mayfield.
The Sound Tigers have signed goaltender Josh Robinson to a PTO. The Isles now have a roster spot open for Christopher Gibson.
