Avs brace for Predators rematch (Avalanche)

The Avalanche and Nashville Predators play at the Pepsi Center on Friday night, their second meeting in four days.

Here are the game notes for Tuesday.

The Avalanche dropped a 4-3 overtime decision in Nashville on Tuesday and lost 3-0 to the Predators at home on Dec. 9.

Colorado (20-18-11) is trying to find its way into the playoff picture in the Western Conference. The Avalanche have gone 7-2-1 in the past 10 home games and 11-5-5 overall since Dec. 11, but they still trail Calgary by four points (55-51) for the second wild-card position. The Flames also have a significant lead in non-shootout wins (23-14).

"We've been playing good hockey, especially defensively," coach Patrick Roy said. "We need a good start tonight, some good jump. What we'd like to see is good intensity and to be able to maintain that level for 60 minutes."

The Predators (31-10-6) are first in the Central Division and trail Anaheim by two points for the best record in the NHL. They've gone 9-1-4 in their past 14 games and are 2-1-2 since losing goalie Pekka Rinne to a sprained knee.

Carter Hutton has started every game since, but Marek Mazanec could start Friday because Hutton played Thursday in the Predators' 5-4 shootout loss in St. Louis. The Predators didn't skate Friday morning.
