They have been cheating death all season. No one wants to play them in the first round of the playoffs, even though they still are not even IN the playoffs. And yet, to hear the LA Kings talk you would think they were simply battling for playoff position.
Last night in fact, during the second intermission of the Kings/Canucks game Drew Doughty when interviewed noted how the Kings wanted to win the game last night in regulation in order to get home Ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs?
Home Ice? When was the last time the Kings were even in second in their division this season. I guess it could be viewed as confidence, but where Doughty speaking on any other team, such a statement would be viewed with the sentiment "don't curse us man."
But not for the Kings. Have the Kings transcended such kinds of superstitions? Is the same confidence the reason no one wants to play them in the playoffs? Or is this a sign that the Kings have lost respect for the regular season to the point where they can be cocky enough to say they are battling for home ice when they aren't even in a playoff spot?
Can you imagine such a statement coming from the Jets or Flames?
Do you think this is the season this attitude catches up to them? We will know soon enough.
We will discuss all this and more on today's Hockeybuzz cast at 1 PM:
