Big night tonight in Calgary as Alex Ovechkin notched his 900th NHL point. The milestone came off of, what else, a goal in the second period that put Washington up 2-1 over Calgary.
The Caps wound up with a decisive 6-2 victory.
Ovechkin tallied an assist as well, helping to lead a very potent Caps offense that not only lead the way on the scoreboard, but controlled most of the game.
Evgeny Kuznetsov picked up 3 assists as T.J. Oshie, Nicklas Backstrom, Jason Chimera and Andre Burakovsky all scored.
Holtby stopped just 17 of 19 shots by Calgary, who received goals from Sean Monahan and Mark Giordano.
Kari Ramo was chased after two, quick Washington goas in the second and Jonas Hiller finished up the Calgary loss with 10 saves out of 12 shots. Ramo recorded 14-18 saves.
For Alex Ovechkin, he hits yet another milestone in his Hall of Fame career, becoming the first player in franchise history to record 900 points, and he also becomes the second fastest active player in the league to reach 900 behind Jaromir Jagr.
Ovechkin has 479 goals, 421 assists in 764 games. Not too bad.
Congrats Ovi!
The Caps are off tomorrow, but are up against Ryan Miller and the Canucks on Thursday at 10 EST.
More to come...
