Follow @james_tanner123 It was tense there for a while, but Sean Monahan scored halfway through the third to give the Flames and Coyotes fans exactly what they wanted.
Well, actually, there was no real reason to cheer against the Coyotes last night, but some things just become habit!! Kidding.... there is at least a minuscule chance the Sabres pass the Coyotes, so you have to hang on to that, if for no other reason than why else would you even want to tune in?
I was hoping to be able to see the NHL debut of Sam Bennett, but no dice. The Flames, with Bennett, Gaudreau and Monahan should be an exciting team for years to come, and I really hope they end up making the Playoffs so they won't regret not taking one more year to add one extra future star to the lineup.
But, ask any Leafs fan about Burke's patience and its effect on team building......
Anyways, I think it's pretty cool that the Flames get a chance to make their own fate tomorrow night against the Kings.
Speaking of the Kings, why in the hell would they elect to sit Quick on the bench for the most important game of the year? I know it's just Edmonton, and I know that goalies don't post great numbers in back-to-backs, but still, you have one of the best in the biz, and it's an important game, just play him.
And the Sens? Crazy. Their last five games went to OT and they won four of them. I was going to tape the game, saw it was 3-0 Penguins and then decided not to. Regrets. Really too bad the Leafs beat them twice (in OT) in the last week. I mean, why is Toronto trying to win games? It's pathetic really, and if they catch the Hurricanes and are responsible for eliminating the Senators? Is it possible the Leafs can't even tank properly?
Penguins? Hard to like a team that is so spoiled - they're basically the NHL's version of a kid named Chauncy who's Dad owns four yachts and who gets a better car then you'll ever own for his 16th birthday. Mario, Jagr, Francis, Coffey, Kovalev, Crosby, Malkin, Letang......it's just too much. Three Cups? Cool uniforms?
And since Mario Lemieux won his first Art Ross, the Penguins are beating the other 29 teams 15-11 in Art Ross wins. Again, that's just too much. So, to Jamie Benn, who's making a late run at the scoring title, I wish you luck my good man. Or Ovechkin. Anyone, basically, but Crosby or Malkin.
I got to tell you, I am secretly hoping for one of the Islanders or Penguins to miss the Playoffs and win the lottery. Not that I particularly want Edmonton or Buffalo to get two top five picks (or in Buffalo's case, the top two) but I just think it'd be so crazy that it'd be awesome.
Anyways, off to watch some hockey.
Let's go Blue Jackets.
