Game Summary: After 2 periods, shots were roughly 22-11 (one scoreboard said 22-12). Detroit was up 2-0. At the end of the 3rd, shots were 26 apiece and Detroit won 3-0. Outshot 14-4 in the third, the disturbing pattern continues. Meatloaf may think 2 out of 3 ain’t bad, but I doubt LaLonde agrees.

On the positive side, a win combined with Suter now on the goal scoring board is worth celebrating. LaLonde didn’t pull any punches post win against the Caps. If Washington had their full lineup, it could have been ugly. Thank goodness for Husso.

Again, in the first 2 periods, so many good things to see from this team. Seider continues to be willing to take physical abuse to make plays. Raymond is engaging right back and not running from trouble. Zadina made a huge block late in the game that saw him helped to the dressing room.

The Isles are almost the modern day “broad street bullies…. With a coach many Detroit fans coveted and more than one person who can send you to the ice bath for touching the puck (insert Happy Gilmore clip here). To a player, the Isles are committed to making life miserable. In a best of 7 series, that’s the kind of team you don’t want to play.

Hats off to Raymond, Kubalik, Larkin, and Seider for a lot of things. But, without Husso they may not have held up. Ville Husso has put his stamp on the net at this point. The hope will be a solid tandem where Ned will step up and get in that flow of competition you want between netminders. They support each other, and simultaneously want to take the position. It’s the beauty of sport.

6-3-2 after 11 games, that’s a really good start for this rebuilding team on paper. Something is not clicking still, and it’s a 60 minute effort. Injuries are subsiding and lines/chemistry are being established. We’ll see where the team sits after 20 and right near (American) Thanksgiving.

First Period Detroit goals: No first period goals Shots 13-7 Detroit.

Second Period Detroit goals:

At 6:29 Raymond scores a near identical goal to one scored in the last game. This time he didn’t need to get it off his skate. A really crisp pass and Raymond just used a quick wrister to add to his current streak. Kubalik makes a really nice pass cross crease on the man advantage. Larkin with the second helper. I don’t like that kind of pass at full strength, but on a 5 on 3 they work much better. Shots now 19-7 favoring Detroit

At 12:51, while short handed, Pius Suter gets the thousand pound weight off of his back as he gets a a clean breakaway after a sacrificial play by Seider and a tip out of the zone by an Isles defenseman. Erne credited with assist and a big goal for the former ‘hawk. 2-0 Wings. Shots 20-10 Detroit.

Shots 22-11, Detroit’s favor after 2, 2-0 Wings

Third Period Detroit goals:

Detroit was held spotless for 10 minutes and 13 seconds. That’s when Kubalik scored on a breakaway and gained the team lead with 14 points. A beautiful wrister glove side at about mid pipe level. Copp with the lone assist on Kubalik’s 5th goal. 14 points in 11 games, not bad at all.

With 5 mins left, Isles pulled their goalie. Within 15 secs Lee took a tripping minor. Isles outshooting Detroit 10-3 in the third at this point.
