Wings 2 for 2 in New York swing. Ned gets much needed support (Red Wings)

Detroit played the Islanders just over a day ago (6 hours if I’m doing my daylight savings/losing time math correctly). An exciting 40 minutes followed by 20 minutes of a Titatanic “can’t we both fit on that door?… Moments that seems to sum up Detroit’s play this year. Luckily, it was enough to get them the W, and I doubt Husso bought his own steak last night.

Game Summary I’ll be honest. When I see NYR on the schedule I think of 2 names any more. Panarin and Zibanejad. Panarin is just awesome to watch. I’d have to dislike the game not to enjoy what he brings to the table. Zibanejad is so tricky. 6 of 7 goals on the power play so far. But, he could be in a double digit drought and then get a hat trick (or more). When he scored tonight, it felt like this was going to be a long game.

Well, it was technically long, went to OT. However, Detroit battled back. Ned got some support. They were outshot in the 3rd, but not nearly as badly. Suter is looking like a different player. Copp seems to be finding his groove. Seider another multi point game. Perron, who I haven’t been a fan of in other sweaters, is really helping this team along. Not a bad start.

The Rangers have an absolute nightmare in Panarin. Just always in the middle of things. As Lafreniere and Kakko continue to grow, there is a lot to like about the team at MSG. I had some good back and forth with a friend about the state of the Wings. They need more top 6 forwards, a center, better back end depth and some maturing before talking about being a “contender…. Hronek has made some really good plays this weekend, and having Seider on the top line is really something special. I’m not going to kid myself about where we are, but Yzerman has made big changes in short order.

Ned played well, and the team played for him. Even the first was, I thought, a well played period. The team didn’t give up, and I thought it was a good win for them. MSG is such a treat as a fan (never been, but would love to) and in any sport or event I hear the same from the talent. Such a special venue. Rinks are much more standardized than ever, but a trip to MSG sticks out to everyone who gets that opportunity.

Congrats to Detroit for a hard fought 4 points in 2 days. I would like to see Vrana and Bertuzzi back. Hoping the best for Zadina. There is another gear for this team, but the showing so far has been eye opening for many.

First Period Red Wings goals: no wings goals in first NYR up 2-0

Second Period Red Wings goals:

Luff got something for the mantle as he scored his first in the Winged Wheel. Soderblom helped make the play but won’t be on the scoresheet. Luff made a beautiful tip of a Chiarot shot, Seider with the 2nd apple

Suter is obviously feeling his oats again as a 3 man rush with Larkin and Hronek found him the recipient of a tap in rebound that tied that game at 2. Wings outshooting NYR 21-14 at this point.

Period ends 2-2 Shots 24-17 favoring Detroit

Third Period Red Wings goals:

No third period goals Shots 32-29 favoring Detroit Outshot 12-8 by NYR

Overtime goal:

With 1:02 Kubalik continues to prove what a fantastic part of the roster he is. Seider gets the puck to Perron who makes a cross seam power play pass, this time Kubalik is the beneficiary and just knocks it in. Beautiful play, well done.
