Working on a major rumor and chart update for this afternoon....but
Mike Augello has been mentioning this for a while now as a "What if" scenario, but today was the first time I have heard it from an actual NHL source...
The concept is the Leafs are sitting on a ton of money for this coming year....however two years from now they have to sign Matthews AND Marner...but for one year...the Leafs could throw Tavares everything they have with the richest single season contract in NHL history...
Tavares has ALWAYS dreamed of playing for the Leafs since growing up in the area, but may not even want to commit the rest of his career to the team...The Leafs only have the money for sure for one year...So this has win/win written all over it...
