For quite a few years now there have been two teams that seem to have paralleled each other on many occasions. Both had some great seasonsl, each has had some terrible seasons, In the last 20 years they each lost in a Cup Final, And they’ve each fallen way below expectations. They’ve even shared a few head coaches.
Since the year 2000…
* The Canucks have won 861 games. The Flyers have won 851.
* The Canucks have lost 814 games. The Flyers have lost 819
* And early in the 2000’s the Flyers tied 61 times. The Canucks 56.
* The Canucks have a .514 Winning Percentage, The Flyers are .511
* The Flyers have made the playoffs 15 times. The Canucks 13.
* The Flyers have won 13 series. The Canucks 9.
So these two teams have been on very similar courses.
Last year, heading into the season there was a lot of hope for both teams after each won a few rounds in the bubble. Both teams made some “go for it… moves heading into last season and both teams fell below expectations and missed the playoffs.
The Canucks made a coaching change in season and looked good under Boudreau, the Flyers never looked good under Vigneault and made their coaching change in the offseason.
The Canucks were once again given high hopes heading into this season, where the Flyers were given little hope at all.
So who’s better now?
Both teams have potential stars in net, but so far Carter Hart has been way better than Demko.
Hart is 5-0-2 with a 2.10 GAA and a 943 save percentage Demko is 1-6-0 with 4.06 GAA and a 876 save percentage

The Flyers are 5-3-2, currently in a wildcard spot. The Canucks 2-6-2 currently last in the Western Conference. The Canucks have scored 30. The Flyers 26. The Flyers have allowed 27. The Canucks have allowed 40. The Canucks have the 4th best Power Play. The Flyers are 24th. The Flyers have the 16th best PK. The Canucks have the 32nd/Worst PK
So who is better in 2022/23?
In my opinion its really close. The Canucks have blown several leads, but are scoring goals. The Flyers are getting incredible goaltending from Carter Hart, early Vezina level actually..
It’s harder to start scoring goals, than it is to tighten up your defense,….’
Right now, I would have to say: The Flyers are Better Than the Canucks..
