It has now been 26 years. Twenty-Six years since we have seen a Stanley Cup taken home by a Canadian Team...
Every March, I like to look at the 7 teams north of the Border and take stock and ask you the simple question:
What Canadian Team Will Be the Next Team to Win A Stanley Cup?
I asked this question on Twitter this morning and I will add those results to this blog after the 1pm podcast...
My thoughts...
It will be very easy of course to say Ottawa is the furthest away because they are the only team that is admittedly in a REBUILD. However, when determining who will be the next team to "win it all," sometimes a team rebuilding can get there faster than a team that is on a course that they feel is solid, but will land them short...
Ottawa is a great example of this...The Sens have some very exciting young talent, and an incredible amount of quality draft picks to make in Montreal this June...Each year we are seeing younger players make a bigger and bigger impact....
Vancouver is a team that really looks to be headed in the right direction as well...Although they may still be a year away from the playoffs.
Edmonton is a year ahead of Vancouver and has shown they are a playoff team.
Montreal is in a rebuild, although admitting you are in a rebuild in Montreal is really noy done...but their actions say they are, and to be honest they have some really great young talent with a ton of speed...
Calgary and Winnipeg are both looking at their windows as open...what is their ceiling?
Toronto has a world-class offense, and could fill their holes on Defense in the summer..
