Cap Friendly lists players that are signed but who are currently considered “non roster…. There seem to be one or two obvious candidates, but how many will Detroit bring up?
Simon Edvinsson’s extended stay in Detroit seemed to signal that the club is keen on having him on the main roster. The 6’6… left shot D suffered an injury that ultimately kept him out of the final games of the Milwaukee season. If fully healthy, it’s hard to think he won’t be in Detroit on opening night.
Carter Mazur lost much of the season to injury, but showed an ability to be a checking forward in the post season. If the club projects him as a bottom 6 player it doesn’t feel like a stretch that Mazur will have at least a good opportunity to make the team out of camp.
Elmer Soderblom is a bit of a quandary. Another player who probably projects as a checking forward, it will likely depend on what he accomplishes over the summer as to where he will ultimately land.
The elephant in the room with all of this is Berggren. He seems an obvious fit for promotion but there is some uncertainty as to whether he will be with the club or not. His first round play for the griffins saw him collect all 3 game winning goals. JB has had experience at the NHL level, but last year had a lot of fans wondering about his demotion. Rumors of a potential ask for a trade and extensions turned down add to the fog. If the team and player can get on the same page it would be hard to imagine a scenario where Berggren won’t be in Detroit.
Danielson was a very exciting prospect but looked a bit out of place as he was shoved into the Milwaukee series. At this point it seems like a good idea to get some AHL reps with a possible call up. Kasper may be in a similar boat.
