Hockey fans of my generation found two players duking it out quite enjoyable and entertaining. One of my first Leafs – Sabres games at the old Memorial Auditorium in 1979, when Toronto defenseman Dave Hutchison and Buffalo rookie Larry Playfair squared off in the main event of a game littered with fisticuffs.
Of the 25 bouts that the Leafs had last season, winger Matt Martin was involved in more than half, which is why he will not be a player that head coach Mike Babcock will be looking to sit on most nights.
