So how did the game go last night? Luke Glendening scored twice and the Penguins lost 5-2, so not great. Detroit isn’t a good team and this was a bad loss for the Penguins. This is especially true because Detroit was in Montreal the night before.
Sidney Crosby’s line provided the only consistent positive results on the evening. They were the best for either team. It led to an early Penguins lead just 38 seconds in
That was pretty much it for the Penguins in Detroit. Sometimes you can just brush a game off and get back to work, but it isn’t as easy as that when injuries are involved. Derick Brassard has a lower body injury and there weren’t really any other details on it. This would be problematic because the Penguins are still built to outscore teams and not defend them. Brassard is a huge reason why that strategy can be successful as the playoffs near.
The Penguins are not in “danger… of missing the playoffs, but they need some victories in their last five games. They will get the Devils next who have had the Penguins number this year. Then it is Montreal, Washington, Columbus, and Ottawa. Home ice advantage is on the line and right now the most likely opponent for the Penguins are the red hot Columbus Blue Jackets. Personally, I’d like to have last change more times than not and if the Penguins don’t start banking some points they aren’t going to have that advantage.
The sky isn’t falling and the Penguins were terrible yesterday. Both can be true.
