Delaying the Rumor Divisional Preiveiws a bit due to this developing story...and a conversation that is needed.
Earlier this month we saw Don Cherry let go for statements he made. Over the weekend we learned of Mike Babcock's shaming of Mitch Marner. And then came the allegations of Bill Peters racial slurs...
All of these situations feel incredibly wrong in 2019, and yet none of those around sports would find any of these situations occurrences surprising...but all know this not only feels wrong but is wrong. These are three hockey personalities who have been around a long time.
They are all different situations, and Bill Peters situation feels worse...especially in 2019. And Bill Peters is NOT the first coach to act like he acted ten years ago. What is new is a society where we are holding people accountable, and not allowing their station in life to "let things slide."
I believe Peters will NEVER coach again. I also believe that the Flames are doing the right thing by making sure they get all the facts right. And then there will be some time figuring out if Peters can get paid still...The Flames I am told won't wait until they figure out the money to let him go.
Sports has needed this FOREVER. Has needed this conversation.
