Follow @james_tanner123 The Washington Capitals have won the Stanley Cup.
Alex Ovechkin won the Conn Smythe as the Playoff MVP to go along with three Hart Trophies, I think seven goal scoring titles, an Art Ross, a daytime Emmy, four Oscars and six Grammies.
He needs only a Tony to EGOTSAC.
Will he, as rumoured, join the cast of Hamilton this summer in an attempt to get the last remaining award on earth that he has not won? Stay tuned.
Last night's game was - and I'm probably being biased here - one of the best games I've ever seen. It was incredibly intense - I don't even cheer for the Capitals as my favorite team and I was white knuckling it the whole time.
Those posts! Jesus.
How about Ovechkin scoring a classic Ovie goal in the clinching game? You couldn't write this stuff.
And the hero? Perennially underrated third line centre Lars Eller with the game winner? How awesome was that?
Jacob Vrana with the breakaway goal? That was great. No healthy scratch for him ever again. And the beautifully outspoken Devonte Smith-Pelley picking one up too? Awesome.
And T.J Oshie making a million grown men cry like babies?
This was the best game ever.
Congrats to the boys for a great season, it was a truly incredible run.
For the Capitals fans, this was an absolutely deserved moment, after a decade of having one of the best teams in the NHL and being labeled 'chokers' by fans who can't look beyond the results.
And Ovechkin, what do you say about him? He's probably the greatest goal scorer of all-time, and he finally wins the Cup after taking years of crap for literally no reason other than he wasn't lucky enough to have Evgeni Malkin play on a different line than him and make all the matchups 10x easier.
What a great day for the Capitals. What else do you say? The victory is sweet. (Especially if you spend five year covering the Coyotes!!!!)
What a blast.
