Joe Veleno has signed a 1 year deal worth 825k. I’m putting this very close to my last entry, so if you want to see that click here.
Veleno came with a lot of fanfare in Ken Holland’s final draft as Detroit’s GM. He’s achieved “exceptional status… in being allowed to participate in Canadian junior hockey at an early age. In 152 NHL games he’s listed as having 18 goals and 18 assists. Where Joe has definitely improved is in strength and looked a little fast last year. Regardless, unless something changes he looks to be a bottom 6 player along with Rasmussen and Berggren (2 other Holland holdovers) with the final holdover being Larkin.
The draft that brought us Zadina, Veleno and Berggren along with first rounders in previous drafts of Svechnikov and Mantha seem to have fizzled a bit. This one year pact may be a “show me… deal or may even lead to a trade at some point. I honestly don’t know. Let me know your thoughts on JV and where you think he’ll end up.
