Spoke with an NHL front office person today about why a proven d-man like Cody Franson has been on the UFA market all summer. Was told the reason why he's been on the free agent market all summer was that his camp went into July looking for a multi-year deal that teams were not willing to commit to. As the market thinned, the price did not come down sufficiently.
By the end of August, most teams are in PTO territory or one year tops. There is still interest in Franson, however.
