MDZ (as he is called) has been told by the Flyers he won't be back, but not because he can't play. He isn't coming back because the Flyers have so many young prospects who they hope will fill the same role...and if they can't quite do that they will cost less.
But Del Zotto is a player...He can add a lot to a defense and there are several teams who know it. The fact that teams already know he will be a UFA will benefit him a lot...Among the available UFA defensemen MDZ may go unnoticed, but he reminds me a little of Sam Gagner last year...He was more important to the Flyers than they seemed to realize and next year someone will get a bargain...
What do you think of Del Zotto?
Also, take some time to check out this great Podcast, which takes a look back at the Game 7 from 30 years ago between the Islanders and the Capitals:
It was 30 years ago that the New York Islanders, down three games to one to the Washington Capitals, forced a Game 7 in the Patrick Division semifinals. The game would go into early Easter morning and Pat LaFontaine's turnaround shot from the point found a way past Bob Mason in the fourth OT to give New York an incredible series win.
The Isles Buzz Podcast talks with some of the players and broadcasters involved in that "epic" game.
