While Lewis was a key member of the team for many years, bringing him back for another season just wouldn’t have made sense for the Kings. He’s nearing his mid-thirties and given the Kings’ rebuild, it makes more sense to use the lineup spot to integrate a younger player into the lineup.
The fact that Lewis didn't get a contract in free agency shows how brutal the market is right now. He can still be an effective bottom-six forward and could bring good value on a one-year deal.
Lewis played a total of 674 games with the Kings, scoring 70 goals and 163 points.
