Thoughts on Mazur, Debrincat and a what if on Nylander (not rumor, wishing) (Red Wings)

Mark Easson writes that teams aren’t putting an 8 million value on Debrincat, and it sounds like max term may not be on the table. Please keep in mind, this is now 3rd or 4th hand info as I write it. Things change, but the market may not be what “team cat… are hoping for.

It took most of the day, but I watched 2.5 hrs of Red Wing streams to “see what I could see…. The hard part is always trying to report when you get a limited window and just whatever camera angles are available. Back in my “camp going days… I would watch how players interacted on benches, or during drills, the side stuff. Who commands attention in ways you don’t get to see on TV. That was the stuff that fascinated me.

I’m going on limited exposure here, but Carter Mazur looks like someone who wants to take a job. Keeping in mind this was prospects and invitees, there’s something different in his demeanor. Buium is starting to come around, but Mazur will want to make it as hard as possible for Detroit to make a decision as to which side of the state he starts playing in.

Finally, I’ve seen some back and forth on the boards regarding trying to acquire Debrincat vs trying to acquire Nylander. The rumor pages have hints that extension talks aren’t going well, but that is really only known by the people in the room. Either play could add scoring, it now comes down to dollars and motivation of the teams who hold their rights. Toronto wants to add defensively, Nylander wants a raise to 10 million (Matthews ask is obviously higher). I don’t know that Nylander would even be available in all honesty. Just interested to see your takes.

If you can get to it, try to go to training camp in Traverse City (Centre Ice Arena). The golf tournament is September 20 and I’ve always heard it’s a lot of fun. It’s a unique experience to watch the interactions and see the kids get their first taste of a seasoned NHL pro experience. Fun if you can get there, and usually and alumni game at some point (shouldn’t be hard to get the roster, plenty in the front office).

I’ll be watching for Mazur. Gut says Grand Rapids, first call up. But, things change and Yzerman will let a young player take a job if they earn it. Let me know your thoughts.
