Thoughts on Danielson, Edvinsson, Mazur, Zach Aston Reese (Red Wings)

Tomorrow’s entry will be some predictions from a few different readers. The final roster didn’t see a breakthrough for Edvinsson. While that’s disappointing, Yzerman loaded up and Edvinsson will start in Grand Rapids. As for Danielson, he was a pleasant surprise. There were several of you who got to know his game a bit better as the preseason wore on. The “official… line from some of the press core for the team is that his young age guaranteed his year would be spent outside of the pro ranks. I think that flies a bit in the face of what we’ve been seeing, and there are certainly examples where 19 isn’t “too young…. It looks like the competition was between Veleno and Berggren and Veleno came out the victor. He was skating hard, making plays, and pushed hard to try and prove he belonged in the Winged Wheel.

It was disappointing that Mazur missed all of training camp due to injury, and the pickup of Zach Aston Reese certainly seems like it will highlight the inevitable call up do to forward injury/roster shuffling.

On the plus, Sprong has a good shot and is able to make those small adjustments that can throw a goalie off. Compher looked good, and the team (as well as the player) are hoping that Copp can see more goals and contributions.

Let me know who stood out to you (for better or worse) and if you think this was the best possible framework for what the office put together this summer. Thanks again to all for following through the summer and through camp. It was fun to see a lot of new faces and well what this team looks like as the weeks go by.
