So, in an odd shift I’m a bit of a Weird Al Yankovic fan. To the point, I’ve liked some remakes more than the original (Amish Paradise felt like a masterpiece…of hilarity). So, he did a cartoon called “Milo Murphy… based on Murphy’s law and did an episode basically pointed at Star Wars, Dr. Who and Star Trek Fans. The point was, we need to reset the needle sometimes and just enjoy what we have instead of trying to deep dive everything.
As I look at the list of upcoming possible buyouts, I realize I’d much rather have Bertuzzi back. I just like the player. Yes, I think he contributes but there is a “fan… in me for that kid. It’s the same with Tatar. I just miss the player because he was fun. Sometimes our sport doesn’t have a lot of “personality… but those two do.
There’s a part of my brain that says, “we tried over and over before committing to a full rebuild and it made the process harder…. Then the fan comes in and just wants to see those two. I just have good memories of the players. I liked Nyquist, but Tatar was like a powder keg. Bertuzzi can be similar. Just a blast of caffeine to the team and the fans.
So, if you were pulling a “Blues Brothers…, who would you get back? It’s ok to push aside the realities of salary or other issues for this one. Is there a player that you miss and have mixed feelings when Detroit sees them on the ice in the opposition sweater? Let me know, and a happy belated Father’s Day to all for whom that applies. My dad has been gone for a while, so it’s a bittersweet day. But there are lots of good memories and I hope you all have someone who was there to give you some good memories too (maybe still doing so).
the band back together.
