Yesterday afternoon I started to hear more and more than there were some deals getting close out there and some could be happening by the end of this week...early next week at the latest.
There is an old expression in the news industry that if you want to diminish the backlash of an unpopular story you do it late on a Friday or in the last two weeks of August...When everyone is on vacation...
If the Sens or Habs are forced to trade Karlsson and/or Pacioretty for a "rental" return it will be an extremely tough pill to swallow...and highly unpopular....So there is no better time to do that than in the next 10 days. This is when you can somewhat diminish the backlash because this is when the fewest people will be there to see it.
These last two weeks of August are when the largest numbers of their fans go on vacation in the States and Canada. And if you aren't at work, then you won't be going on the internet for twitter and taking out your frustrations.
I will return with a Rumor Blog which addresses some of the possibilities out there right now, but I wanted to first get this point across to the many of you who are asking me if they should be expecting a trade soon. The answer this time of year would normally be not to expect much. But this year with some teams staring at lose/lose scenarios, teams could very well try to sneak something past the majority of their fans who are paying more attention to the beach and lakes in cabins and shore houses...
