The August 15th deadline is here. You didn’t know about the August 15th deadline? You consider yourself a hockey fan?
Truth be told I didn’t know about the deadline, either. The deadline is for college draftees to be signed by their drafting club. Signing rights expire after today. What does this mean for the Penguins? Not much, but they do have a player on the list

Clayton Phillips was a 3rd round pick back in 2017. He has played five college seasons (COVID allowed for extra) and one game with the WB/S Penguins.
He, like the rest of the 2017 draft class, wasn’t especially impactful for the Penguins.
This is what passes for big news in the middle of August.
