The Russian national team's coaches have named the roster for the upcoming Karjala Cup, a Euro Hockey Tour tournament which will take place between the 9th and 12th of November in Finland.Goalkeepers: Igor Shestyorkin (SKA Saint Petersburg), Ilya Sorokin (CSKA Moscow), Andrei Kareev (Salavat Yulaev Ufa).
Defensemen: Vladislav Gavrikov, Vyacheslav Voynov, Dinar Khafizullin, Andrei Zubarev (SKA Saint Petersburg), Bogdan Kiselevich, Nikita Nesterov (both CSKA Moscow), Ilya Lyubushkin (Lokomotiv), Nikita Tryamkin (Avtomobilist), Vasily Tokranov (Ak Bars).
Forwards: Nikita Gusev, Alexander Barabanov, Sergei Shirokov, Sergei Kalinin, Sergei Plotnikov (all SKA Saint Petersburg), Kirill Kaprizov, Mikhail Grigorenko, Valery Nichushkin, Ivan Telegin, Sergei Andronov (all CSKA Moscow), Vladimir Tkachyov (Ak Bars), Sergei Mozyakin (Metallurg Magnitogorsk), Pavel Kraskovsky (Lokmotiv).
Russia's opponents at the Karjala Cup will be Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Canada, and Switzerland. The team which earns the most amount of points in three matches will win the tournament.
Some might be surprised that Ilya Kovalchuk and Pavel Datsyuk are key pieces missing from this roster. It's clear as a day that head coach of Team Russia - Olegs Znaroks has no interest to see those two play extra games because he coaches them with SKA. While that's what it is with Ilya Kovalchuk, Pavel Datsyuk is a different case here.
Pavel Datsyuk has been placed on injury reserve by SKA. Expected to return no sooner than on 26th of November.
