Flyers prospects figured prominently in Team USA Blue's 7-1 rout of Team Finland on Sunday at the 2019 World Junior Summer Showcase in Plymouth, Michigan. The game completed the preliminary phase of the tournament for the Team USA split squad (USA Blue and USA White). There will now be a single Team USA squad for the rest of the tournament, made up of players from both halves of the split squad.
On Sunday, Flyers 2018 first-round pick Joel Farabee notched a pair of goals, while 2019 first-rounder Cam York scored once and 2019 second-rounder Bobby Brink earned an assist.
Farabee's first goal gave USA Blue a 2-0 lead in the latter stages of the first period. He claimed a loose puck, split the defense to go in on goaltender Jasper Patrikainen and slipped a backhander through the five-hole.
Finland cut the gap to 2-1 before the end of the first period. Early in the second period, at the 1:00 mark, York made it a 3-1 game. After Cole Caufield intercepted an errant clearing attempt by the Finns, he passed the puck over to York, who was jumping into the slot. York roofed a shot into the top right corner.
Farabee's second goal, scored late in the second period, opened a 4-1 lead. Claiming the puck behind the net, he moved around and cut in toward the left dot, where he backhanded a rising shot into the net.
USA Blue went on to score three more times in the third period. With the win, USA Blue improved to 2-0-0. Finland is 1-1-0. USA White dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Sweden (1-1-0) to drop to 0-1-1.
After an off-day on Monday, the combined Team USA roster will take on Team Canada on Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m. EDT. A live stream will be available on HockeyTV.
