It wasn't easy and it wasn't always pretty but the Dallas Stars did what they needed to do against the Arizona Coyotes as they completed a home-and-home sweep with a 5-4 regulation win in Glendale on Thursday. Two nights earlier, the Stars collected a 3-1 win over the Coyotes on home ice at the American Airlines Center.
With the win, the Stars improved to 4-3-0 on the season. The Coyotes, now 0-6-1, remain the only winless team in the NHL.
Thursday's game at Gila River Arena ultimately came down to the Stars' best players -- the top line duo of Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn -- stepping up to combine for three goals and Dallas getting a bit of secondary scoring as well from Radek Faksa and defenseman Stephen Johns. The Stars trailed 1-0, then led by scores of 2-1 and 3-2 before Seguin broke a 3-3 deadlock with a pair of third period goals.
Dallas went 1-for-2 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. Ben Bishop stopped 27 of 31 shots to earn the win in goal. Adin Hill made 25 saves on 30 shots.
The Stars host the Carolina Hurricanes at the American Airlines Center on Saturday night.
