St. Louis looking for trade with Krug, but may not be right fit for Detroit (Red Wings)

Let me be very clear, I admire Torey Krug. His first games in Boston were eye openers and he punches up. Liking a player and them being the right fit aren’t always compatible.

St. Louis tried to trade Torey Krug to Philadelphia but the trade was “nixed… by the player. Of course, any time someone with a Michigan connection of any kind is on the block Detroit comes up in conversation.

Torey Krug has 4 more years at 6.5 million on his current deal. The 5’9… left shot Dman is 32 and I’m not sure what he’s looking for in a new team. It’s clear St. Louis wants to move on and I don’t imagine that’s a fun situation for either party. A failed trade just makes it that much more awkward.

I can’t tell you if Krug is a fit or not. Salary retained, what does St. Louis want in return? Where does he slot in? In all honestly, unless something too good to turn down is on the table I don’t see this one going through. I’m wrong, very wrong, at times. I did want to see Petry and that one ended up happening. We still have no idea what this team will look like on the ice. Is Yzerman getting stop gap “locker room… depth players? I’d really like to see Edvinsson healed up and grabbing a spot. If Yzerman is shopping for left side D, I’d rather see Hanifin on the list if I’m being totally transparent. I don’t know the cost, and would want the framework of an extension that could be implemented once available.

This offseason has been strange. A lot of new faces, another retirement today in Hagelin. The Arizona situation keeps taking weird turns (I thought Utah was carved in stone but apparently not the case). Bert will be wearing a maple leaf (playing for 3 original 6 teams has to be pretty cool. Chelios talked a little about that). The other changes I’ve written about enough until the final decisions are made. Honestly, I just want to start watching hockey.

The prospects tournament will be here in about 2 weeks. If anyone is interested in some sort of virtual watch party (via Twitter maybe? Or “X…) let me know. I have my list of who I’m watching for and will publish that soon. We’re so close to the sound of medal on ice and pucks on stick blades. I don’t know if you do this, but when I go into a rink I love the smell and sounds. I just take it in for a minute. Scraping, the “pop… of a hard pass. The echo of pucks off the boards. It’s completely immersive and I love it.

Let me know your thoughts on Krug, preseason interests etc. you make this blog work, and I can’t thank you enough.
