The Pittsburgh Penguins lost to the Buffalo Sabres in a shootout today. Nobody will remember or care about that part. The big news for the Penguins is that Sidney Crosby left the game in the first period and did not return. He was hurt blocking a shot.

At first I was hoping he was hungover from his jersey retirement ceremony in Rimouski the night before. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the case. This is a pivotal moment in the Penguins season and it hasn’t even begun yet. Without Phil Kessel the Penguins aren’t as equipped to handle losing Crosby or Malkin for an extended period of time.
