It was a night to remember for the towns of O'Leary and Summerside, PEI, and it is an experience the Ottawa Senators would like to remember, except for the 60 minutes on the ice.
The New Jersey Devils made quick work of the Senators in the annual Kraft Hockeyville game, scoring 5 goals on 16 first period shots and cruised to an 8-1 win over the Sens.
Mike Condon allowed 7 goals before being replaced halfway through by Andrew Hammond, who allowed 1 goal on 7 shots. Thomas Chabot was the lone Senator to beat Corey Schneider.
On the plus side, it can't get much worse, and it was the first loss of the preseason for the Senators, who have just 2 games left to sort out an opening night lineup.
It is the type of game you just need to forget about and put in the rear view mirror, but it will affect where certain players start the season. It wasn't a good night for a lot of hopefuls to make the roster, and some of the moves could be made today, which is an off day in terms of practice or meetings. There could be a couple less faces at the morning skate on Wednesday before they head to Winnipeg for the penultimate game of the preseason against the Jets.
