The Nylander situation is a sticky one, but Kyle Dubas is doing all he can to make this situation publicly appear like "No biggie." The official word from the Leafs is that they aren't listening to offers....and we ALL know what that means... OF COURSE they will listen. It is their job to listen. All the time. To Any Offer. I was told the two (or maybe three) possible offers have indeed been turned away, showing the Leafs don't want to move Nylander, but they are always listening...And yes, both sides are shooting for a long term deal here.
I heard one of the trade offers came from a Metro Division team and included a very strong young D-man....and THAT has to be tempting given the fact the Leafs may have enough offense already and most people do believe they are just a couple defensive pieces away from being considered a legit Cup threat...
The general feeling from the team that was denied after making that offer was the Leafs and Nylander are very close on a deal...but probably a bridge deal near the $5 range for 4 years.
