The Wings look to be starting the year with 3 goalies. Here is an update per Helene St. James:
The Red Wings appear to be leaning toward carrying three goalies to start the season, reports Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press. Detroit signed James Reimer to be the backup with fellow newcomer Alex Lyon presumptively being the ideal third option with AHL Grand Rapids. However, with how well Lyon finished last season and some teams believed to be looking to add goalie depth, it appears that they’re not willing to risk losing Lyon on waivers at this time. Detroit sits well below the cap ceiling so they can easily afford to go this route with their roster if they choose to do so.
Update:
DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today assigned forwards Austin Czarnik, Tim Gettinger, Taro Hirose and Nolan Stevens and defensemen Jared McIsaac, Wyatt Newpower and Brogan Rafferty to the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins. Additionally, the Red Wings assigned goaltender John Lethemon to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.
The Red Wings currently have 29 players on their training camp roster: 18 forwards, eight defensemen and three goaltenders. Currently at 4-2-1 through seven preseason games, Detroit concludes its preseason schedule with a home game against the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight (Saturday, Oct. 7) at 7:00 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena. The game will air on Bally Sports Detroit.
Forwards: Fabbri, Copp, Raymond, Kostin, Rasmussen, Fischer, Compher, Perron, Larkin, Sprong, Veleno, Debrincat Defense: Maata, Chiarot, Gostisbehere, Petry, Seider, Walman
Goal: Husso Reimer
Michael Hutchinson was released from PTO. We’ll find out soon enough and I’ll update if any players were taken off of waivers. Would like to see Edvinsson and Danielson on the list tonight but that’s a personal preference. Otherwise, this is pretty close to opening night as far as I can tell.
