Newsday’s Jim Baumbach is reporting that a decision to award the Belmont site to the New York Islanders or NYCFC is likely to come this week. Both club unveiled their proposals earlier in the month.
The timing could not be any better for the Islanders, as they have until January to opt out of their 25-year lease with the Barclays Center.
Islanders owner Jon Ledecky previously stated that the team has “no Plan B… when it comes to Belmont.
In other news, defenseman Calvin de Haan did not practiced this morning. de Haan went down pretty hard in Saturday’s OT win against the Los Angeles Kings. Head coach Doug Weight did not have an update regarding de Haan “it’s either going to be a little bit or a long while.…
Weight was unsure if Thomas Hickey would be ready to go tomorrow against the Detroit Red Wings. If Hickey cannot go, Dennis Seidenberg would take de Haan’s place. It didn’t seem like Devon Toews or Sebastian Aho, both having all-star caliber season at Bridgeport would be called up. Weight, for season reason seemed that the seven dmen, including an injured Hickey and a subpar Seidenberg could make up for de Haan’s absence.
Josh Bailey has been named the NHL Third Star of the Week. Bailey had eight points in four games, including his first career hat trick last Thursday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
This is the second time this season Bailey was named a Star of the Week. He was named the NHL’s Second Star of the Week on November 6.
