In terms of call ups, it may be the blue line that has me most intrigued. Tuomisto seems to be having a solid go in Grand Rapids and Wallinder’s mobility, edge work and passing are getting some praise. That leads to the final thought of the day, the trade deadline.
Detroit is still in the awkward spot where the most valuable assets are young players in or close to playing in the NHL along with draft picks. Neither of these are something the team should be hasty about moving unless a prospect (or even upcoming UFA) expresses a clear desire to move on (and please don’t leak it). If the team is still in the mix at the deadline but hear from Lyon that he’s going to hit the market, that may bring some solid return for a goalie on a sub 1 million dollar deal.
As always, let me know your thoughts as we get ready to reboot the NHL and USA/Canada head toward round two with injuries starting to play a part for team USA.
