The 2017-18 NHL regular season is finally underway! The Anaheim Ducks have competed in two games thus far, both at Honda Center, against the Arizona Coyotes and the Philadelphia Flyers.
Thursday night's contest against Arizona was pretty much as dramatic as it gets, as the Ducks erased a three-goal deficit to walk away as the victors. Until about five minutes left in the second period, the Coyotes were in complete control. However, they could sustain their dominance and Anaheim got four consecutive goals from Corey Perry, Ondrej Kase, Andrew Cogliano, and Rickard Rakell. Rakell's goal with 3:30 left in the third period was the icing on the cake and the Ducks came out of their season opener with a 5-4 win.
Corey Perry had the just the right kind of night after suffering a poor 2016-17 season. Not only did he score the goal that began the Ducks comeback, he also recorded the first goal of the night for Anaheim.
The Ducks experienced a much more "back and forth" type game on Saturday night when they took on the Philadelphia Flyers. Anaheim would erase a one-goal deficit on two separate occasions with goals from Antoine Vermette and Cam Fowler. Unfortunately, they just did not have enough to ever capture a lead. The contest would eventually make its way to overtime where Wayne Simmonds would score the goal to give the Flyers the victory.
Although we are only two games into the regular season, the Ducks find themselves in a good place with a 1-0-1 record. They will look to increase their number in the in the win column when they take on the Calgary Flames tonight.
